A whole new level of

traceability.

The best mānuka honey has next-level traceability: down to the tree’s DNA.

We have three levels of traceability to ensure the authenticity, quality and integrity of our high-grade honey is absolutely ensured.

Our on-pack code lets the buyer trace the honey to:

  1. Its particular region and ecosystem.

  2. The individual trees, within that ecosystem, that produced this honey; and

  3. The DNA, the genetic code of these trees. This is world-first traceability for mānuka honey.

  • UMF® is the registered trademark of the UMF® Honey Association and can only be used by licensed operators that meet published standards and strict criteria….like us! 100% Pure New Zealand Honey is a UMF® Licensee (N0. 1037). Look for that marker and you’ll know it’s real New Zealand mānuka honey.

Genuine UMF® mānuka honey contains a number of special markers that indicate the content of the honey. Only a small percentage of honeys contain all the characteristics required to be labelled as genuine UMF® rated mānuka honey. The UMF® quality mark assures you the honey you are purchasing is indeed genuine mānuka honey.

  • MGO stands for methylglyoxal, and it’s one of the chemical markers used to indicate the level or rating of each UMF® mānuka honey. MGO is the chemical that was identified originally as giving mānuka honey its unique antibacterial characteristics. The UMF® level varies based on the amount of MGO present in the honey as per the chart below.

While MGO is the key to determining the UMF® level of mānuka honey, it cannot be used on its own to prove whether it’s authentic. For that reason, it is important to check for other markers such as Leptosperin, which is unique to mānuka honey and not able to be chemically manufactured.

  • Mānuka honey should be raw and unpasteurised. Ours is. At 100% Pure New Zealand Honey, the only thing we do is put it through our artisan Pure Flow™ method. Using pure seed honey, Pure Flow™ enhances the honeys’ superior goodness without pasteurisation or excess heat treatment, which can degrade the UMF® levels and alter the quality. There are also no preservatives or additives, just 100% pure New Zealand mānuka honey.

  • Our honey has completed a comprehensive third-party verification ensuring its compliance with the Non-GMO Project Standard.

  • Our Manuka 5 Attributes test is the MPI science definition of mānuka honey, as announced 11 April 2017. This test is for MPI's General Requirement for Export (GREX) for honey.

The definition uses 5 attributes (4 chemical markers and a DNA marker) that when present in honey at specified levels provide evidence that the honey is New Zealand Manuka Honey, either monofloral or multifloral, depending on the concentration of one of the chemical markers.
